2011 Ultimate Blog Party
Hello everyone! I just joined the 2011 Ultimate Blog Party. It looks like a blast! If you are new to my blog, welcome to The Journey!
I am a Christian stay-at-home-mom in Nevada and homeschool our 10 year old son whom has Asperger's Syndrome. This is a high-functioning part of the Autism Spectrum.
I was recently diagnosed with Parkinsons. I have had major symptoms for more than three years, but it took awhile to diagnose...mainly due to the fact that I am now just 43 years old and it wasn't even thought of as a possibility.
I blog about a variety of topics...basically whatever is on my mind and/or that I am dealing with at the time. Most of my posts tend to be about homeschooling, Aspergers and other special needs, dealing with early-onset Parkinsons, and reflections on daily life and struggles.
I have also just begun (this week) a new series of posts called Music Adventures. These are short, user-friendly music lessons to use with your children. These lessons do not require the parent/teacher to have ANY musical experience to be successful.
We will explore the different aspects of music appreciation and theory. This includes concepts such as: music history, instruments and their families, movement and art to music, playing basic rhythm instruments, and learning about beat, pitch, note construction, dynamics, tempo, etc.
I am so glad that you stopped by. I will attempt to check out as many of the blogs as possible at the Party. But as you know, the list is extremely long. SO, if you leave me a comment below, I will definitely make sure that I check out your blog.
Be sure to connect with me on Twitter, too! You can find me at TheJourney_1

Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteThanks from popping by from UBP! I'm following you on GFC and Twitter :)
ReplyDeleteHi, great name you have there! ;-p
ReplyDeleteMy father-in-law had Parkinson's....ugh, I'm sorry!
The music lesson caught my eye as I was clicking on the "comment" link - I'm off to check that out. I took piano lessons for about 14 years, then stopped completely. (Why, oh why?) I finally purchased a digital piano, but with 2 little ones underfoot I don't have a lot of time to play it without extra hands joining me. Someday......
Stopping by from UBP!
Thanks Steph. Regarding Music Adventures: I just started posting those the other day. I will be adding many more in the near future. Mostly, just need to find the supporting materials like pictures and examples of the music that everyone can access. I have taught the class about 7 times IRL. I will be sure to stop by your blog, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sam and CookiesandClogs, too. I will be over at yours shortly Sam. I am already following you CookiesandClogs since finding you through the party last night. Great blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. So wonderful to meet you. I will be praying for your health. I am new to Twitter, but am trying to use it to network with other HS Moms. It's a great place to meet so many wonderful people.
ReplyDeleteHi Robin! Thanks for your prayers. I think that I am doing pretty good; though, I can always use prayers for something. :) I am pretty new to Twitter, too. The main thing I love about Twitter is the networking with other homeschoolers and/or special needs parents. So glad that you stopped by and that we now have met. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi!! Nice to meet another special needs mom via the UBP! I have 2 kids - 3-1/2 yrs old and 11 months. My 3-1/2 yr old was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth. He is an absolute blessing in our lives. I'll be following your blog.

Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog :-) I teared up reading that you have been diagnosed with Parkinson's. My grandmother suffered from it as well as her son - my uncle - who was diagnosed at 60. I pray that you will be able to find some relief of the symptoms...
ReplyDeleteHi Ria! Nice to meet you, too! Some of my FAVORITE people in the world have special needs. They are genuinely sweet souls! Thanks for following me. On my way over to your blog now. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Carma. Sorry that you teared up. I think that I am doing pretty good considering it all. You know? Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by www.livingwiththreeboys.com. Love your music lessons... I'm going to bookmark for the boys!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I just started that series and have plans for MANY more lessons. Please check back!
ReplyDeleteStephanie, I am very glad you stopped by and entered my blog giveaway. I have enjoyed my visit to your blog. The Lord impressed on me to pray for you all as I was reading. I have done so.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you all!
Pam
Hi Pam! Thanks for stopping by and especially for praying for me. Things seem to be going ok right now, but one can never have too many prayers! I hope you stop by again soon. God's blessings!
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDelete(hugs)
Thank you so much for stopping by my place at Live Laugh Love and Bloggings for #UBP11
I love what you are sharing here - I have such a sense of peace here -- not sure why - I just do.
Blessings for you and your family.
Hi Stephanie, I popped on over from Twitter. Nice to meet you! Stop by if you find a moment: http://optymyst.wordpress.com
ReplyDeleteHey again Stephanie. I did come here from Twitter, but Twitter is a place I rarely go. My username is @OptyMyst, and you can see I have not been involved out there very much, though I have had the account for a couple of years. Even my blog is new/renewed. It was formerly a different type of blog back in 2006, but with the same title.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your visit and kind words. I have begun to feel very strongly recently about leaving something for my granddaughter, and think I may have hit on the right thing to do when I headed back out to blogging land after a very long absence.
So off we blog! I added your blog to my sidebar so I can keep tabs on your posts. See you soon!
Hi Stephanie, Thank you for stopping by UBP at my blog. It is so nice to meet you! I hope that you are enjoying the UBP and I look forward to more of your posts.
